Will the Oil Drain Plug Bolt on my 1991 Olds Calais 2.5L Iron Duke be 14mm or 15mm for the Oil Change?

I am going to do an Oil Change. I think i will use 1/4 the Quart of CD2 Sludge Remover, as 1) That is not the whole thing and 2) SeaFoam is more expensive, and i dont want to Foul my Spark Plugs before Tune-Up. I have the Oil Filter too; Iron Duke has it IN the Pan.

I just remembered I had a Ratched Set; should have 14mm AND 15mm in there; I just wonder if there is anything i should know or do before i change the oil.. FIRST TIME EVER ive had a car with the Filter IN the Pan (Im used to it being in a different location) and it also doesnt angle to one side like those cars, so... I will be jacking the car up from one side, i will go with the Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30 Synthetic Blend.

Should i put a SMALL (like 4 ounces) amount of Transmission Fluid in the engine too, to ALSO help clean it out, and let the engine run for 5 or 10 minutes?

Please tell me anything i am missing, or what.. the car has 170,ooo miles, and I am saying %26quot;Good Riddance%26quot; to the Lucas, as i owe my car a Formal Apology after i see how the Lucas SUFFOCATED the Anti-Foam Additives of Oil, and ive drove like that for 5000 or 6000 miles :( (The Oil Guy Demonstration Web Site) so there IS some Crap/Sludge left in there.. also i have the minor issue of the Valve Seal Guides smoking for 5 minutes, most all the time, maybe i just see it more because it is cold.. No oil Drips on ground.

Thanks! Will the Oil Drain Plug Bolt on my 1991 Olds Calais 2.5L Iron Duke be 14mm or 15mm for the Oil Change?
Wow it seems your only question is do I need a 14mm or 15 mm to change the oil? I never know with a strange car until I stick my head under the car. It might even be 17mm. You do know that 14mm interchanges with a 9/16 in and 15 mm usually isn't an oil plug size.

What I wouldn't do %26quot;like put transmission Fluid in the engine.%26quot; You seem to be interested in sludge. Why do you think you have so much sludge? Will the Oil Drain Plug Bolt on my 1991 Olds Calais 2.5L Iron Duke be 14mm or 15mm for the Oil Change?
Pour some seafoam in the crankcase, run it for 15 min, then drain the oil.

I think its either a 9/16%26quot; or a 15mm (if you don't have a 9/16, a 14 will just barely fit on) just make sure your ready cuz when that large oil plug and filter comes out, the oil drains FAST

A transmission assembly will connect directly to the rear of the engine. It will then transfer the energy from the engine to the drive shaft and then on to the wheels.

Except for in the case of front-wheel drive, it is normally located underneath the center of the car. In a front-wheel drive, it is part of the transaxle assembly and is located on the rear and underneath the engine.

Many a time a transmission problem is actually an engine problem. Therefore, before you begin to even diagnose a transmission problem, check the engine systems are operating properly. In case the engine performance is incorrect, the transmission assembly will receive the wrong information.

The front wheel drive transmission assembly is also called a Transaxle. That is because it incorporates a differential while a rear wheel drive version does not.

The transmission assembly allows the engine to operate in its narrow range of speeds. The used transmission assembly provides a wide range of output speeds. To achieve the various gear ratios it locks and unlocks different sets of gears to the output shaft.

The role of the spur gears in a transmission assembly is very important. The smaller pinion gears are fixed in relation to each other. The upper spur gear is mounted onto the transmission shaft with a ball raced metal housing. The inside of this housing contains a centrifugal clutch system. This spur gear is free to rotate on the shaft. The lower spur gear is also mounted on a ball raced metal housing. But in this case the bearing is of a special type called a one-way bearing.

When the engine speed rises sufficiently for the clutch to engage, the car begins to move forward. In this movement the smaller of the pinion gear drives the lower spur gear through the one-way bearing. This automatically locks onto the shaft.

In the acceleration mode the centrifugal force overcomes the resistance of the springs and allows the clutch shoes to move forward. The driving force of the pinion gear at this juncture is transferred to the upper spur gear.

A situation is thereby created where the second gear is rotating at a higher speed than the first. Automatically the one-way bearing allows the shaft to be driven by the second gears.

Just look for the pan if you see a drain plug, if not then pull the pan down. But remember if you brake the gasket replace it or it will leak.2000 dodge durango transmission oil change.?
Some vehicles have a drain plug for the tranny, many do not. Yes you have to remove the pan to change the filter. With no drain plug it gets messy. Put a large shallow container under the pan. Take out all bolts except 2 on 1 side or end of the pan and just loosen those 2. It will stay in place with the seal from the gasket. Get your container ready and break loose the pan on the side opposite your 2 bolts.

Soket wrench?

What size soket do I need to losen a 1989 honda accord dx bolt on my drain pan. Changing oil myself. I was going to get a socket wrench set is the size more likely to be in a socket wrench set how much do set usually run. thanks in advance.Soket wrench?
socket wrench. it will be meteric, most likely a 16mm, but i am not sure.

do you have a harbour freight near you? see harborfreight.com

they have decent tools for your application. if you have one near by, see the internet site and sign up for thier newsletter. they always send out coupoms via email and the mail.

most items will go on sale every few weeks for about half price or so, with the 5 dollar off coupon, you can really safe.

hand tools are garanteed for life. i have damaged a few and simply take them in and they just hand you a new one. better than sears's policy.

they will also have filter wrenches and drain pans and funnels.

depending on the number of sockets as little as 15.00 to 80.00 dollars. they have a set on sale for 4.50. i bought a set of 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 sae or meteric all in individual metal cases with wrenches for 39.00

3/8 drive is the size you will need.

they also have ramps to raise the vehicle so that you can cral under it. if you use a jack, use jack stnds or something else under the car to prevent it from crushing you if and when the jack slips out.

  • Water in my trucks oil?

ok my truck was running fine but i was a lil behind on my oil change so yesterday i went and got my oil changed at a local shop and than went to pick up my friend that lives 60 miles away, 50 miles of interstate, well i go pick him up and everything was ok. well going today to drop him off and after about 30 miles of interstate i hear a pop and i see smoke coming out my exaust in the rear view mirror, than my power steering went out but i got to the side of the road and noticed my brakes were not working either, than i realized my truck shut itself off for some reason. so i look under the truck and see oil coming out from the passanger side of the oil pan where the gasket is. the wrecker told me that there was a good bit of water in my oil cuz it was a yellowish color and it was not really oil textured, how could water get in there i know it wasnt from the shop, it was a well known shop idk if i can say any names on here but it must have got in there some other way, btw there was no leaks that we could see from the outside of the engine like around the heads that water could have got inWater in my trucks oil?

HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?

quite a bit too much. How can I get it out, asap? 2000 Chevy Cav.

I know nothing about cars, please help!! I'm affraid to drive it anywhere!

Any way to get it out without out changing the oil pan (which I have no idea how to do!!).HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
Good thinking not to drive it !!

Too much oil in an engine can harm it !

You can see above the (pretty easy) thing to do.

The%26quot;drain plug%26quot; will be ON the oil pan, at the lowest part, looks like a bolt sticking out, all by itself. you should be able to reach it laying down in front of the car.

Unscrew the plug, the oil will POUR out(use a container to catch the oil, and plug in case it slips). retrieve the plug, and put it back when the oil quits coming out, tighten it, andf add 4 1/2 quarts of oil to your engine. Then all you have to do, is re-cycle your oil you drained, and SMILE !! You just did, ALL BY YOURSELF ! 80 % of an oil change !!

You could do the rest, too, but you will probabaly need a tool to remove the old oil filter.

REMEMBER:: Lefty-loosey, righty-tighty !HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
There is a Screw plug in the oil pan. This is taken out when changing the oil. Unscrew it and let some oil out. you may have to add some after you drain it.HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
You need to drain the oil from the vehicle by removing the drain plug.

I would suggest draining all of the oil, then starting with new oil since it will be difficult to put the drain plug back in with the oil pouring out.

Find the oil pan under the vehicle (large black metal 'tub'), then find the drain plug towards the back/bottom, and unscrew that.HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
Locate the oil drain plug and drain about an ounce, you will get oil all over your hands tho so make sure you have a clean up rag available.

Best if the oil is cold as this will spill some oil. Use a clean oil draining container and do not reuse the oil once you dump it.HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
get a pan, unscrew the drain bolt at bottom of engine, let some out.HELP! I put too much oil in may car...?
buy a set of ramps... and a bucket with 5 inch sides drive the car up on the ramps.. under the car in the back or front of the oil pan you will see a plug.. six sides.. place the bucket under this area take the plug out and the oil will drain into the bucket.. after it is all out. replace the plug.. check the gasket.. now look at that oil if it is black discard it but if it is caramel color place in a storage container.. now refil the crank case with the recommended abount which is 4 or 5 quarts.. the oil you drained save as oil to add when low .. back off the ramps put the ramps away and drive.

Kawasaki mule with rust in the oil pan?

I have a kawasaki mule 3010 gas. it's been running really sluggish and the oil temp light came on yesterday while driving. I checked the oil and as soon as I pulled the dipstick i could smell burning. I just changed the oil two months ago and didn't notice anything wrong. but yesterday the oil was full of rust. Since the engine is sealed i couldn't figure out how water could have gotten in to rust it. It's run every day so it's not like it just sits and water seeped in. Possibly blown head gasket? maybe coolant leaking from somewhere? please helpKawasaki mule with rust in the oil pan?
Perhaps you've run it through water (puddles, streams, etc) regularly and your oil pan gasket has hardened with age, allowing water to seep into the pan?

I'm not sure if the Mule is water- or air-cooled, but if it's water-cooled as you hint, yes, it could also be a leaking head gasket.

Clean the rust out of the oil pan, and replace the oil pan gasket. Assuming you have no trouble out of the Mule, wait until your next service interval and drop the oil pan again to inspect for rust. If it has re-appeared, have the head gasket replaced.

One more thing: ALWAYS make sure you re-torque the oil pan bolts to the factory-specified torque setting, as too little torque might not give a good enough seal, and too much torque might cause the gasket to pinch and fail. Either way, you end up with water in your oil pan, and probably an oil leak as well. If you haven't invested in a torque wrench for this purpose, do so now. Sorta pricey, but worth it if you're going to do your own maintenance.

  • Is there a free online repair manual for a 1999 Ford Taurus SE...I really don't want to buy a whole book?

I need to know how to change the oil pan gasket, step by step. The labor charge for this repair is outrageous! If I can find the manual, I have someone with the know how to take everything apart and put it back together-they are just unfamiliar with this model! Is there a free online repair manual for a 1999 Ford Taurus SE...I really don%26039;t want to buy a whole book?
I'm assuming you are referring to a Taurus equipped with the 3.0L OHV V6 engine, since this is the one where it is most common to have the rubber gasket fail and push through causing a massive oil leak. I strongly recommend you purchase the replacement gasket from the Ford dealer parts department because it is updated to the same style used on current model year 3.0L engines which are no longer prone to failure. The part number is 2U1Z-6710-AA for $38.15US. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the pan as well if it's rusted. Believe me you are NOT going to want to have to do this job twice! Here are MY instructions:

Disconnect negative battery terminal. Remove air cleaner and air inlet tube as an assembly. Disconnect both UPSTREAM O2 sensor connectors, accessing from the TOP of the vehicle (the ones with the green connectors). Remove the aluminum heat shield and the back side of the engine compartment where it's held in by two black plastic %26quot;pushpin%26quot; type retainers, taking care not to damage the shield too badly. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove both UPSTREAM O2 sensors, using a 7/8%26quot; or 22mm wrench, or an O2 sensor socket. Remove the starter. Disconnect both DOWNSTREAM O2 sensors (blue connectors) where they clip onto the area near the steering rack and stabilizer bar. Remove right/front wheel assembly. Using a 15mm deep socket and suitably sized extension with the appropriate air tool, remove the one nut securing the catalytic converter hanger bracket just under the right side axle shaft, accessing from the right side of the vehicle just above the subframe, but below the axle shaft (this may be difficult to see). Using only the same 15mm socket and appropriate driver, remove the one bolt securing the catalytic converter to the transmission pan area, under the vehicle. Using an impact gun with a suitably sized extension and 15mm deep swivel socket, remove the four 15mm nuts securing the catalytic converter assembly to the exhaust manifolds. This may require the use of an oxygen/acetylene torch to heat up the nuts in order to enable removal. Pay particular attention the back two nuts above the transmission. They will be VERY difficult to access. With an assistant, FINESSE the catalytic converter out, and let it hang by the flex pipe out of the way. Using the appropriate extension and driver with 5/16%26quot; socket, remove the one remaining bolt holding the transmission inspection plate cover, and remove cover. With an %26quot;assistant%26quot; holding the engine oil pan in place, remove the sixteen engine oil pan bolts with a 5/16%26quot; socket and appropriately sized extension, with a 3/8%26quot; drive impact gun. Carefully, FINESSE the oil pan out from under the engine, taking care not to damage the windage tray in the pan, or the oil pickup assembly. Remove old pan gasket, and discard. Clean off both gasket surfaces on the oil pan, and the engine block. Install NEW gasket onto oil pan. Dab a small bead of silicone onto engine block at the four corners. CAREFULLY, install oil pan and gasket onto engine block, again taking care not to damage new gasket in the process. Start ALL sixteen bolts BY HAND, BEFORE tightening. Tighten up all bolts securely. The rest of the installation is just the reverse of removal. Once finished. Fill engine up with 5 liters of your choice of engine oil, and new oil filter. Do you STILL think the labor charge is outrageous after all this? If you need more information, e-mail me. Hope this helps. Is there a free online repair manual for a 1999 Ford Taurus SE...I really don%26039;t want to buy a whole book?
try the public library they should have manuls on this and give you copies of the pages you need for free or very low cost

I went to go change my oil and they said they would not do it due to oil under the car?

They said there is oil under the car. When I got home I looked under my car and there was oil. Their wasnt a lot but enough to cover the buttom pan. Does anyone know what this could be. Is it a leak where the nut is our somewhere on the engine itself. I will go take it in but I would like to know before I take it in, so I know what I am dealing with. If you coukld also tell me how much you think a leak would cost to fix.

ThanksI went to go change my oil and they said they would not do it due to oil under the car?
This could be serious or a small problem, take it to a trusted mechanic or buy an extensive manual on your vehicle usually offered at auto parts stores. You many need a new pan or gasket. get it checked out quick.I went to go change my oil and they said they would not do it due to oil under the car?
check to see if theres a crack in the pan if the nut is loose or iv the welds are broke if the pan is cracked or the weld are broke u have to get a new pan unles u can weld but if the nut is loose then just tighten it

How do I get ALL the oil out of my car's engine?

i changed my oil for the first time today, at the same time i jacked up the driver's side to fix a tire, and I notices more oil leaked out (the bolt was still of the oil pan).

but it was taking forever to stop dripping. Could i just dump a bunch of water or alcohol in the engine where the oil goes to help flush all the bad oil out?How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
george no dont put anything other than oil or an oil adative in the oil pan! you would have to remove the oil pan and hand wash it to get all the stuff you would find in that pan out. thats what the car has an oil filter for. the ideal way to drain the oil pan is to locate the drain plug 1st. if the plug is to the passenger side , lift the drivers side up as if removing the tire making sure to put it on jack stands for safety. the oposite if on the drivers side. some cars have a rear centered plug, this can be drained without raising the car usually as the engine almost always tilts slightly rearward. i lift them for ease of examination while servicing the car though. water and oil dont mix and neither do they in an engine so again never put it in the engine and alchohol can blend with any oil you may have and cause an internal explosion in the pan so no to that as well. the best you as an owner can really do is to change the oil while its still prety hot as oil flows from the engine quicker and drags more contaninants with it .most mechanics wont do this because its prety hard to remove the plug on a hot motor. How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
Since this was your first oil change, you learned something valuable... Having the car's front end higher, than the rear, will cause the oil to flow out. Generally, changing the oil works best, if the car has been driven long enough, to warm the oil... The oil flows better, when warm, as well. Then, get yourself a good floor jack, that will support the weight of the front end, of your vehicle, then, have your oil pan ready, to catch the oil, as you remove the oil pan bolt. Then, let the contents of the engine drain into the oil pan, you have on the ground. It will take a while, and, you will actually not get all the oil, out of the engine, though, you should get at least 99.9% out, at least. Once this has stopped, then, remove the oil filter, and, let that drain out, as well. That, combined, with the other oil, that was drained out, should pretty much take care of the old oil. You should never, however, introduce water, or, alcohol, into the engine... You will make a total mess, for yourself, and, could end up, ruining your engine, for good. How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
just tilt the pan so that it wants to drain out well like you know already. don't use solvents for normal changes. you can crank the engine after the pan is empty but before you pull the filter but it has a major downside which is no oil pressure while cranking. you will get an extra pint out that way maybe but you run risks if you crank it too long. i would not do it that way, just drain it with it tilted a bit. get it HOT before draining. put fresh oil in the filter before installing(if it won't pour out while installing) and lube the o-ring. always check the flange for the o-ring from the old filter to avoid embarrassment upon starting. How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
It's not worth the trouble. If you get 90% bad oil out and change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles you'll be in good shape.

Years back I had one friend obsessed with getting all the oil out on every change. He ended up ruining the engine.

Certainly don't pour water or alcohol into the engine.

Compared to 20 years ago motor oil does an excellent job of protecting the moving parts in an engine. I have '91 Dodge work van with 250,000 miles on it and I work it hard. I've taken no special care of it other than regular oil changes and basic maintenance. How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
you got your answer jack up drivers side next time you change oil or both sides never had anything but oil to a motor and they wil always be some left no matter what you do an dyou dont worry about it since its only a cup or less that might be left but next time jack both sidesHow do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
No way to get ALL the oil out without taking it apart. NEVER add water or alcohol. Drain the oil while it is at normal operating temp. How do I get ALL the oil out of my car%26039;s engine?
How do I get ALL the oil out of my car's engine? by completely disassembling the engine... in terms of efficiently changing the engine oil, change the oil when at normal Hot operating temperature, replace the filter first, and make sure that the old gasket came off the engine with the old filter, then put fresh oil on the filter gasket, screw the filter onto the engine adapter until moderately snug, then tighten it another 1/4 turn either by hand or by use of a filter wrench.

When changing the oil you need to run the engine long enough to bring it up to near operating temperature then shut the engine OFF.

If you remove the drain plug or filter with the engine running you will destroy the engine!

Raise the vehicle on ramps or jack it up and set it securely on metal jack stands

    %26lt; NEVER EVER GET UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY A JACK! %26gt;

Place a catch pan under the filter and remove the filter, check the filter and the filter mounting to make certain that the filter seal came off with the filter - if it is stuck to the mount simply pull it off with your fingers. Put a coating of oil on the rubber seal on the new filter and screw the new filter on until it is good and snug hand tight then turn it 1/8 of a turn farther using the filter wrench if you do not have strong hands or the location makes it difficult to get a good grip on it.

Move the drain pan under the engine oil pan drain - the drain will be a hex head bolt on the bottom of the pan - it may be in the center of the bottom or at the side or back at the lowest edge of the side. If it is a sideways drain take note that the oil will shoot out sideways several inches when you first remove the plug so adjust the drain pan position accordingly. Remove the drain Plug. Remember that when looking directly at the head of the plug that it will turn Left or Counter Clockwise to loosen it. Drain plugs tend to be very tight so a long handled wrench is advised. After the draining oil slows to a drip replace the Plug snugly but do not tighten excessively.

Pour the recommended amount of oil into the engine through the Oil fill opening on the valve cover. Most engines take 5 quarts but some only need 4, ford truck diesels require up to 15 Quarts! Check your owners manual before starting to make sure you have the right amount of and type of oil for your engine on hand before starting an oil change.

Start the engine and immediatly look under the car in the area of the oil filter and watch for leakage - if the filter is not properly installed the oil will pour out rapidly!!! If there is no leakage then you can take the car down off of the jack stands or pull it off of the ramps - park it on a level surface and shut the engine off for a few minutes and check the oil level if you added the correct amount of oil the level should be within + - 1/8%26quot; of the full mark on the dipstick.

If you choose to change your own oil, please do not pour used oil down any water, sewer or storm drain. Used motor needs to be properly recycled to protect the environment! Any automotive dealership or oil change facility will be happy to receive your used oil and see that it is properly recycled.

Oil pressure gauge tubing and pressure?

i got a 77 olds 88 had a oil pressure gauge put in when the engine was rebuilt it used chevron supreme 20W50 and kept using it till the engine got broke in which the engine is at a bit over 1000 miles which is the break in period now after the engine breaking period i did change the oil when the old oil expired i changed oil weights i put in castrol GTX 10W30 and before the 20W50 my gauge read 30 to 35 PSI at a stop now it reads around 25 to 20 PSI at a stop and the tubing you get with the oil pressure gauges its a clear tubing and the oil has a soapy look to it it or looks bubbly and i have no idea on what went on. i can't remember if the 20W50 did the same thing its impossible that the new oil has a bubble look to it as teh only thing that was off was the oil pan plug to drain the oil nothing else was off so water or air did not or could not of gotten in but turns to normal after the car cools off my gauge never idled at 20 or 25 whent eh 20W50 was in it idles normal oil pressure when you go and in park it is at the normal pressure which is 40 to 30 in P but at a stop now it goes down to 25 or 20 and no further down it does not go below 20 i have no idea on how to read a gauge is it normal for the oil pressure to be between 20 and 40? and i know below 20 is bad but 20 and above is it a bad thing? it bothers me to see the pressure at 20 im thinking on seeing what happens when i put in the 20W50 to see if it goes to what it did. will that work or should i try it. what should i do or what is happening and is it normal. i replaced the thing that goes in the front of the block and the tube goes in to the top but it did nothing the old one was leaking but the new piece did nothing its just the pressure at 20 PSI which bothers me or is it the normal number to be atOil pressure gauge tubing and pressure?
first wasnt anything wrong with 20w50Oil pressure gauge tubing and pressure?
I understand your worry being a new motor and you want every thing right you are running a lower viscosity of oil and you will have a lower pressure and yes the 20/50 had air bubbles in it as the 10/30. If it will put your mind at ease go back to 20/50 and see the exact same thing bubbles and a little higher pressure. It is fine enjoy the new motor and change the oil every 3500 miles.Oil pressure gauge tubing and pressure?
Thinner oils flows easier, but dont show s much pressure on a gauge. That is common and norm.

20W50 will always read higher than say 10W30.

Now really 20W50 shouldnt have been used on a new rebuilt engine. Thats way too thick for a new, tight engine. 10W40 should be the thickest you run

Airin the oil is norm. It's called windage and crankcase pressure. As the crank, rods, etc moves in the crankcase the oil gets whipped around and causes air bubbles, foam at times, and plus the new rings takes time to seat and seal so you probbly have compression slipping past rings and entering the crankcase.. Norm takes 1500-2000 miles to fully seat rings

Oil pressure, you need a min. of 10 psi per 1,000 RPM engine speed with engine at running temp.. Higher is much better than lower..

But you are fine with as low as say about 8-12 psi at a hot idle (15, 20, 30 psi is even better though)

  • How do I get a "quick lube shop" to repair an oil leak I suspect they caused?

Short story: I think a quick lube shop stripped my oil pan after an oil change, and now I want them to replace the pan on their own dime. They're currently giving me the run-around.

    Long story:

In early August, I went to one of those quick lube shops (like EZ Lube or Jiffy Lube) for an oil change. This was on a Friday. The following Monday, I noticed a puddle of oil underneath my car.

I brought my car back to the same shop and told them that I suspected they caused the oil leak. According to them, the cause of the leak was a stripped oil pan caused by typical wear and tear. However, for no charge, they said they'd re-strip the oil pan for me.

After they supposedly re-stripped the oil pan, I brought my car to two other mechanics to get their opinion of the oil leak. Both concurred that the oil pan was stripped, but it wasn't because of wear and tear - it was because someone applied too much torque when reapplying the plug.

In addition, I found out that the folks at the quick lube shop %26quot;fixed%26quot; the oil leak by applying silicon to the plug. One of the mechanics said that the silicon is a temporary patch that may last me months, years, or just days. The car would start to leak oil again sooner or later, and replacing the oil pan is the only permanent fix. The estimated cost to replace my oil pan is about $500.

I now want this quick lube shop to give me the name of one of their %26quot;associated mechanics%26quot; and replace my oil pan for me at no additional charge. When I asked the shop's manager to give me a list of names of %26quot;associated mechanics%26quot;, he gave me the run-around: I'd have to fill a claim, I'd have to bring the car back to the shop so he personally can inspect it and ensure that it was, indeed, his workers' fault that the oil pan was stripped...

How good are my chances? What steps can I expect to take? Should I talk with the manager of the shop, or go up the chain to their corporate customer service? Or should I just pony up the $500 myself and forget about this?

Thanks in advance for any information. How do I get a %26quot;quick lube shop%26quot; to repair an oil leak I suspect they caused?
To begin with the %26quot;Stripped pan bolt%26quot; is an old trick. I have no doubt that it is stripped as I have had two Quick lube places %26quot;Discover%26quot; stripped pan bolts on two of my own vehicles. (I used to build Funny Car Engines so I am fairly adept at vehicle maintenance) Normally they pull this scam when my wife (who is more mechanically inclined than most lube shop jockeys) takes the car in. Normally they approach with it was like that before we did anything....... My wife has taken the approach that she tells them that I am a mechanic up front and that has stopped the BS. Now on to your delima. Most of the auto parts stores like Autozone or Advance etc. carry a tool to rethread the oilpan drain plug. I would also recommend that you demand to the corporate customer service reps. that they %26quot;PAY FOR%26quot; your vehicle to be repaired however I would not allow them to make the repair themselves. The kit to rethread the oil pan is between 15 and 30 dollars and they will probably want to say it costs 50 - 100 or more and with your current experience do you really want them %26quot;inside%26quot; of your engine. We have had good luck pressuring the Corporate people to make amends more so than the clowns in the shops. By the way we now go to a %26quot;quicky lube%26quot; place that knows both me and my wife by name and they know that I will not take part in their scam. I have even had a Mr. Tire location try to pull the stripped drain bolt ..... until I walked up and put another pan bolt in the pan while they stood there with their mouth hanging open. How do I get a %26quot;quick lube shop%26quot; to repair an oil leak I suspect they caused?
Keep on them, and don't let up. Get the mechanics you have taken it to to put their findings in writing. If the quick lube place continues to give you the run around, call a lawyer. Usually one letter from a lawyer is enough to get places like that to pony up. How do I get a %26quot;quick lube shop%26quot; to repair an oil leak I suspect they caused?
Good question. First off, unless that was your first oil change, you dont have much of a case. The plug has been in and out plenty of times and the threads get weaker and weaker each oil change. If you were in my shop and that happened, I would have walked you out after we removed the drain plug and showed you the threads. In any case, for customer satisfaction, I would install a two piece self tapping drain plug. No way do you need to replace the pan. The two piece drain plug has one end that self threads into the pan and never comes out again, the other end has a small bolt that gets removed for future oil changes. We have used this alot and never had any problems. How do I get a %26quot;quick lube shop%26quot; to repair an oil leak I suspect they caused?
very very good, contact there corporate office and ask to speak to a supervisor and state your case, Don't talk to a drone! talk to a supervisor, that work's 99% of the time if not what's your deductible on your insurance, I use AAA and if I filed a claim they'd be on them like a pit bull on a pork chop! I also have a 54 chevy that has the original drain plug and it doesn't leak, but then again I do my own service cause I don't trust morons working on any of my vehicles

Oil leak because of damaged oil pan?

Step dad tried changing my oil, but the plug was too tight. Being the not very handy man he is, he tries forcing it out and %26quot;hits%26quot;the oil pan. Now the drain plug won't tighten. Do I need to buy a new oil pan? If so, what else would I need to buy? Oil pan gasket as well? How difficult is it going to be to this?Oil leak because of damaged oil pan?
THEY SELL OVERSIZE DRAIN PLUGS THAT MAY TAKE CARE OF IT UNLESS HE BROKE THE WELDED INTERNAL NUT LOOSE FROM THE PAN.

In that case you will have to R%26amp;R the pan.

not knowing what vehicle you have can't say about appx cost/sOil leak because of damaged oil pan?
He hit the oil pan now the plug won't tighten? Sounds weird. They do have a fix at the local parts store. Go ask the counter guy for help. If you need to change the pan, you would also want to change the gasket; they rarely come off in one piece. Also there may be a cross member that's in the way. You will have to lift the engine up a few inches so you can remove the old oil pan.Oil leak because of damaged oil pan?
personally i would remove it and tig weld a new nut and plug on but most people dont have welders so you should just buy a new one and take away your step dads tools!!!

You need to loosen the trans mount and engine mounts, then jack the engine/trans up slightly. Use a jack with either the cradle or a 2x4 blocking. You'll then get clearance to pull the oil pan from under the member. It'll slide forward - with a little monkeying to get past the bottom-end bits. How to remove oil pan form 1965 chevy impala?

Welding hammer lodged into oil pan and ruined motor. How do I fix it?

I have a Camry. I bought it 36 days ago and it broke down today. The man I bought it from towed it off and said he found a welding hammer sticking out of my oil pan and it ruined the entire motor. He said I must have run over it and it flew up, puncturing the oil pan, which drained the oil and ruined the motor. He changed my oil last and has done a majority of the work. Is it really possible that I ran over it, it drained the oil, and ruined my motor?

I looked under the car after I pulled over, the only thing I saw was the air conditioning dripping. There was no oil anywhere. I also looked under the hood and saw nothing.. just some white smoke. The man called me and said there was oil everywhere and on the road but I was sitting by my car for 20 min until my ride came. Before I left I looked it over too and still saw no oil, also, the smoke stopped a few seconds after I pulled over. I went back where I broke down and I couldn't find any oil on the road either.

I had a mechanic look at the car today and he said the man is a liar because it's not possible for that to happen, and if it somehow did happen, the things he showed me to prove what had happened would be different. The oil splatter would be all over and the hammer hole would not be a clean entry. Also it's a slim chance that it would have stayed in the pan. AND I would have noticed the hammer hanging when I looked under the car.

I am getting the car towed to a mechanic and I'll be taking pictures of everything. What is the best thing to do in this situation? And where is the best place to get a good affordable motor for an '02 Camry? Please Help!Welding hammer lodged into oil pan and ruined motor. How do I fix it?
Wow - this is a tale right out of the twilight zone.

Yes, it's possible to puncture the oil pan by running over some shrapnel or even a welding hammer in the road - however, it's extremely unlikely that you could do this without hearing it.

It's also possible for the oil to drain out of the resulting hole in the pan - but, again, you would have to be asleep not to hear the engine rattling when the oil pressure fell to zero or see any indication of the oil leakage or warning lights or gages on the instrument panel.

All in all, I'd have to say that story is really reaching the limits of believability.Welding hammer lodged into oil pan and ruined motor. How do I fix it?
definitely sounds like the dealer is taking you for a ride, you may want to file a complaint with the police, you saw no oil, the smoke was white indicating that it was probably coolant not oil, oil is bluish. Did you have any of warranty, if you did he probably doesnt want to honor it. Have the other mechanic inspect for foul play, if the oil was all drained this would have seized the engine .Welding hammer lodged into oil pan and ruined motor. How do I fix it?
something sounds wrong for sure here, first off if a welding hammer hit your oil pan hard enough to go through it you would have heard the clunk second off you would have smelled oil burnining especially if you were there 20 minutes and you would have seen oil dripping from the hole, I agree that it probably wouldnt have been a clean hole, and the hammer would have had oil splatter on it. for sure take it to a mechanic and have them look it over, what was the reason for allowing the guy you got it from to tow it anyway? have it diagnosed by a real mechanic, its possible that you dont need a motor and very possible that the car had a serious problem when you bought it and now the guy is trying to cover his back.Welding hammer lodged into oil pan and ruined motor. How do I fix it?
I guess anything is possible. If the oil drained out it would be quite a way back down the road before your engine seized up. It wouldn't lockup as soon as the hammer went in the pan. It could also make a clean hole because a welding hammer is very pointed. I guess all you can do is get all sides of the story and make your own mind up. It could be either way.

    Oil leak 92 dodge dynasty?

I have a 92 dodge dynasty and there is an oil leak problem. I checked the oil pan, changed the gasket, as well as the valve cover gasketts and the car is still leaking. I cant see oil anywhere from the top of the engine, only from underneath. I have no idea where it's coming from or how much it might cost me to get it fixed. does anyone have any ideas?Oil leak 92 dodge dynasty?
if its leaking from between the engine and the transmission that's a rear main seal causing that too happen and that may be where its coming from, the only other thing left would be a head gasket, they will leak from the corner and cause that too happen, lay a piece of card board under it and run it and see where it leaks from ,if its between the engine and the transmission that's a rear main seal and the engine or transmission will have to come out to repair it,good luck.Oil leak 92 dodge dynasty?

  • Oil Leak on 1991 Dodge Carivan 3.0 Engine?

I had a leak in my 1991 dodge carivan so i had my friend change the oil pan gasket. Before it was dripping and went thru 1 gallon of oil a day.. Now it goes thru 1 gallon a 1/2 hour. Where could it possibly be leaking. Its not from the valve cover gaskets they are all dry. it looks like the pan but we stripped off the old gasket and put the silicone on the bottom AND the top so it would not leak. any ideas and how hard is what you think it is to fix on this carOil Leak on 1991 Dodge Carivan 3.0 Engine?
its probably still leaking from the corners of the new gasket area, you have to use a lot of silicone on them or they will leak worse than they did before,if you,ll check it you,ll probably find that its pouring now from the inner corners on it,good luck.Oil Leak on 1991 Dodge Carivan 3.0 Engine?
To me it sounds like you did something wrong when you changed the pan gasket. That job is quite involved bec not only does all the old gasket have to be properly removed but also the surfaces need to be fully cleaned , plus totally dry , and the even the sequence of what bolts you tighten up first or how much you tighten them up affects the end results.

I'am sure you didn't mean a gallon and you meant a quart of oil but still that amount of oil loss within 30 mins would be extremely noticeable and again if the only place you see wet oil etc is along and on the pan that suggest that the pan gasket is leaking and even an oil drain pan bolt can leak.

Hope hat helps and best of luck.By the way first I'd look over the whole engine very closely for oils leaks but If I were you I'd re-due the gasket and this time don't use any silicone gasket maker with the gasket either just use the gasket maker or a gasket bec having an even flush seal is also vital.

What I recommend you try doing if you don't have a torque wrench or factory torque specs etc is once you change the gasket on any pan later after the vehicles been driven 60 or 100 miles or so go back and lightly tighten the bolts a bit more.

How do i replace 1990 chevrolet ck1500 4.3 oil adapter gasket?

i replaced timing chain on the truck, and to get the timing cover back on i had to drop the oil pan. since i had the oil pan off i replaced the oil pump, normal volume not the high volume. i've got everything back together and oil appears to be leaking from the oil filter adapter, where it bolts to block. i had to remove the adapter to change the oil pan and i could not locate a gasket at the parts store, and since i read online it doesnt need a gasket i just cleaned it as best i could and bolted it back up. it appears to have some kind of o ring or something inside it. i was told that the truck had a leak at the rear main seal, but when i took off the flywheel cover it appeared fairly clean inside. my question is this: how do i properly reinstall the oil filter adapter so it won't leak (btw there is NO oil cooler), and could the oil filter adapter have been the problem instead of the rear main? thanks for any helpHow do i replace 1990 chevrolet ck1500 4.3 oil adapter gasket?
The oil filter adapter may well have an O ring and a gasket, which have a great tendancy to leak when at higher milage. Both should be changed.

An 07 would be under warranty, Unless you have receipts that show you had the oil changed at an approved garage, and anything happens to the motor you will be S.O.L.

From the sounds of it you are to far from being someone who should even attempt to open the hood let alone change your own oil. sorry if I sound rude but your warranty could be compromised if you do it yourself. How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?

My friend just had her oil changed at Walmart. She has a '93 Honda Accord with 150,000 miles on it. After driving 30 miles to work, her oil light came on. When she checked the oil didn't even show up on the dip stick! And there was oil on the ground. She put in two quarts and it leaked out in 20 minutes. She called Walmart and they just said to bring it back in so they could look at it. But the Walmart she took it to is at least 25 miles away from where she works! Also, she just replaced the oil pan less than a year ago.

Can she put 4 quarts in and make it the 30 miles back?

And what should she do/say when she takes it back in to Walmart? How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
Sounds like walmart did something wrong. I bet they put the drain plug in wrong. She can drive it forever like that but she needs to carry oil with her and stop regularly to check it.

For 25 miles, i'd stop at least twice, maybe more depending on how quickly it's coming out of it.

When she gets it to them ask them to take a look at what's wrong. It's probably an easy fix that they'll cover because they broke it.

Make sure she hangs on to her receipts in case you need to make a legal issue out of it. Document all of your calls and what you do.How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
Well buying a Honda was the first mistake in my book. LOL but to each their own. She can drive until there isn't any oil and then she will blow her engine. She needs to have Walmart record in WRITING that they made the error and that they will repair the problem as well as cover the cost of any issues created by their mistake and then have them fix it.

DO NOT drive it back to Walmart...have it towed and insist that WALMART cover the cost of the tow. Walmart could technically say that they don't have to cover it because she still drove the vehicle. How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
tell your friend to get a case of oil, keep the receipt, drive it back to walmart,( if the oil lite comes on before she gets there, stop, check the oil, add more if needed), have the service mgr. put the vehicle up on the lift, and if he lets you, go and look at it WITH him. check the oil pan drain plug and the oil filter. make sure the pan bolt is tight and the filter is not so tight as to where the rubber ring seal isnt torn or twisted onto the outside of the filter body, and insist that they put on a new filter. lastly, make walmart PAY for the case of oil or any quarts you may have used. How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
Have her put in the four quarts before she starts the trip back to Walmart and have her carry another case in the trunk of her car.

She should watch her oil light and the moment it starts to glow again, pull over, check the oil level on the dip stick and add enough oil to bring it up to the proper level and continue.

However many stops and however many quarts it takes to get her back to Walmart.

I suspect that the techs at Walmart forgot to tighten the bolt that drains the oil out of the pan. I can say with almost 100% certainty, that the pan was NOT completely empty when she first took it in for the oil change. She would have seen the oil light and the techs would have said something about it, even if it were to sell her more service repairs.

Have her buy a case of oil and keep the receipt. Wallmart should pay her for the oil she had to replace SINCE the oil change, and NOT have her pay a dime more for fixing the problem they undoubtably cause, nor for any additional oil the put in when she takes it back.

The alternative is to have the car towed back (which actually WOULD be a better alternative, but the hassle of convincing the Walmart service manager to pay for the tow may not be worth it).How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
Your friend should take the Accord back to Walmart and have them correct the oil leak. The work should be carefully inspected to be sure that the leak is coming from the oil pan gasket. It is possible that the oil pan has a hole in it or that the drain plug has been lost. Driving it back Walmart with a big leak in 20 minutes does not sound like a smart idea. Adding 4 quarts of oil every 20 minutes is also not good. Could she go to a closer WALMART and get the work done under a WALMART guarantee? Fix the problem now or you risk losing the whole engine. Walmart will not want to pay for a new engine or a tow truck to tow it 30 miles. How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
If Wal-Mart just changed her oil they're not liable for anything...they don't remove the oil pan to change the oil, just a small drain bolt.

Replacing the oil pan is suspicious....an oil pan isn't usually replaced unless it had been physcially damaged. An oil pan gasket is more commonly replaced...the primary cause of most heavy oil leaks.

Is the car able to get back to Wal-Mart?....of course. Fill it with oil and drive 10-15 minutes, stop, check it, add, repeat. You need to decide first if you're going to try and stick this on Wal-Mart. Look under the car and see where the oil is coming from...the oil pan seal? a loose oil pan bolt? (in which case tighten it and then get the oil change money back from wal-mart), etc. Make a judgement call...if it seems like they may have been liable then DO NOT drive the car. Have it towed to the service location and be prepared to lay out your story very clearly.

If they're willing to fix the problem and you don't believe they caused it then by all means fill her up and drive it cautiously back to the store.

Hope this helps! How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
My suggestion is politely demand Walmart send a mechanic to assess the issue. Since the oil had just been changed there, and no prior issues were observed, this is not an outragious request. However, talk with the store manager first, not the shop manager. It's fine if they put you back to the shop manager after. This way your side gets told directly, without a third party interpretation. Now about the car, DO NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE!!! Sounds like your oil drain plug may not be installed properly but you need Walmart, or a trained pro to evaluate. Walmart would be my first choice, since the mistake is theirs. Make sure the resolution they propose is amicable to you. Hope this helps.

P.S. One other thing. Most replies here seem to indicate driving a car with a severe oil leak is okay ,as long as you keep stopping and putting oil in it. DON%26quot;T DO IT. You will leave a trail of oil, which is a hazardous situation according to the law and makes you resonsible (especially if it causes an accident). Also, you put your car at risk of catching fire. Please, tow it or have Walmart come to you. Be Safe. How far can you drive with a leaky oil pan?
they probably stripped the bolt that goes in the oil pan and then she would have to buy a new oil pan or they put the filter in wrong or something

2001 Honda Civic Oil Pan Gasket Question!?!?

I have a 2001 Honda Civic 2 door coupe. I got the oil changed at Jiffy Lube recently, but just today I noticed that the oil was leaking. I took it back to Jiffy Lube and they told me that I need to have a new oil pan gasket put in. I called a mechanic to see how much this would run, and they told me it would cost around $300. They told me that the part was $50, and that it would take around 3 hours to put in. I don't know very much about cars at all. Can someone please tell me if this is around the right price range?

Also, is there any way I could replace this part myself without having hardly any knowledge of cars?2001 Honda Civic Oil Pan Gasket Question!?!?
Sounds strange to me.No oil leaks, get oil change and develop oil leak. What this sounds like is the sump drain plug washer which must be changed every time the plug is removed. They are of a copper nature usually, and cost pennies.2001 Honda Civic Oil Pan Gasket Question!?!?
Get a second opinion and have another mechanic check it out.

It might be a bad gasket. Then again it could be because the dope at the Jiffy Lube who did the work on your car either didn't use a replacement pan bolt washer or possibly even overtorqued the pan bolt and stripped the treads out of the pan bolt hole.

Or, it may not be the oil pan but from the oil filter. If the filter was not tightened all the way or overtightened and so, the oil may be leaking from there.

The cover is just behind the engine on the bottom side. It is basically the lower section of the bellhousing, right behind the oil pan.

you are asking how you DID take it out? You should know since you took it out.

To change your oil filter, you DO NOT remove the oil pan!! Check with any auto parts store.Oil pump ??
Normally the oil pump is not changed unless you have no oil pressure. To drain the oil just remove the drain plug and catch the oil coming out. Use a oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter which is located next to the oil pan. Just be sure you have the correct filter and oil to put back in prior to starting the engine.Oil pump ??
why r u taking out the oil pump. is it just the oil filter u r looking for. the oil filter is om pass side .look through thec right front tire uu will see the oil filter. to get yhe oil pan off u will need to removethe motorOil pump ??
Wait wait. Slow down, Sexie. Normally I would be all for a do-it-yourself project but you really are not in the ball park. Your oil filter is outside the engine in plain sight. Removing the pan and oil pump is a big job especially with some engines. And you don't know that that is what is needed. It probably isn't! Oil Pan Gasket leak????

I have a 2000 Chevy S-10 4 cylinder automatic that has a leaky oil pan gasket. At least that's what I was told when I had the oil changed. My question for the forum is about how much I should expect to pay to fix this. I called a couple of garages and I was told that it would require R and I of the engine. The only one to give me a guesstimate said about 700 dollars. Another one wants me to bring it in so that he can look at it and see if it is actually the oil pan gasket, then see if there might be another way of getting to it. Just give me a guesstimate, so that I know whether or not these places are trying to rip me off.Oil Pan Gasket leak????
so you could get a couple tools and try tighten the bolts easy.. and you could call any aprts store and ask how much a gasket is and calling three places for a price to replace it is smart....and 700 bucks no way thats the one place not to have it done or go for anything.. if you was told it was by one then most likey it is.... he shoul dhave tried to tighten but im guessing it was a quick lube .. anyways call a round to a few places closer the better older the place the better chance your not getting in.. it can be a hard job sometimes lifting the motor to get the pan clear sometime easy hour job so calling more places ,,, and yes do have it check at aonther place smartOil Pan Gasket leak????
Most cars leak a little oil. I have one. I just check the level once in a while and sometimes add a quart. No problem.... $700 for a pan gasket sounds too much in my opinion.

Vw oil pan problem, help with exact phrasing?

So yesterday I went to pennzoil to get my oil changed but the guy said they couldn't do it for some reason, I couldn't understand what he was saying bc he was talking half in spanish and I don't speak any spanish at all. So I went to the vw dealership where I usually get it serviced and the guy there explained that it is probably something like this: the oil pan has a thing that screws into it like to close it and eventually it like wares down so if you were to take it off you wouldn't be able to put it back on...they gave me a quote to fix it but it was pretty high so I want to get another quote somewhere else but I dont remember exactly what all the parts are called and how to say what's wrong with it and they aren't returning my calls to tell me again...so any help would be appreciated! Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I know nothing about cars or how they work !!Vw oil pan problem, help with exact phrasing?
Yup, sounds like the Oil Drain Plug hole in your engines Oil Pan is stripped.

The Oil Pan is bolted to the bottom of your engine and is basically a big container for your engines oil. Taht is where all the oil goes when the engine is off. There is a threaded hole at the bottom of the pan into which a large bolt is inserted (the Oil Drain Plug) to keep the oil in, and removed in order to drain the old oil during an oil change. Many modern Oil Pans are made from aluminum which is very soft, especially when it is hot. If the Oil Drain Plug is overtightened or if the threads are not aligned properly the Oil Pan can be damaged when it is re-installed during an oil change. The result is the Oil Drain Plug can not be tightened properly and can result in an oil leak.

Sometimes these damaged threads can be repaired with an oversized %26quot;self-tapping%26quot; drain plug or by installing a heli-coil into the pan. Many shops though will refuse to work on a vehicle that has had these types of repairs done. More often than not anyway the entire Oil Pan needs to be removed and replaced with a new one.Vw oil pan problem, help with exact phrasing?
Older VW's had that plate, with small bolts around the edge, and a filter insert that not all %26quot;quick lube%26quot; places will carry. Your dealership will be the best place to have this done at if this is the case. You can go back there and request a written quote. Get that and you can check other places out that might do the work for you.

Good luck.Vw oil pan problem, help with exact phrasing?
sounds like a worn oil drain plug (from overtightning) you should be able to get an oil drain plug washer at any auto parts store (under $5), unless the guy stripped it out. Then u are looking at about $210.00 for a new oil alum. oil pan.Vw oil pan problem, help with exact phrasing?

What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?

I got a 95 CIVIC EX non Vtec, and just found out recently I need a new oil gasket, and that's the reason my oil is running out every 1,000 miles rather than 3,000. I looked for the oil it takes and I came to 5w30. Might it be 10w30? I bought it to the mechanic for check up and he put 2 ounces I believe because it needed it. I wanted to change the oil myself, and I was wondering if i need to drain anything? or can i just pour oil in once i get it.

and other information, this is going to be my first oil change I do on my own, no one ever teaches me everything, so i learn things the hard way, and never took autos. so if u can tell me the do's and dont's about changing oil. all i figure is, unscrew, drain in a pan, then after thats done, keep poring from the top and check the dip stick till its between the two holes.

the only thing is, my oil is completely out,at check up, i mean the mechanic had to put two ounces in so it would be able to drive home, so do i need to drain anything??What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
Don't attempt the the oil change unless you have some idea of what you're doing. we could talk you through it with directions .... and if you don't understand what we're talking about ( which would come from experience) we both would have wasted our time....and you would have ruined something on your car if you did it wrong. First.....Let the mechanic change the gasket so it stops leaking... and have him change the oil afterwards.

Adding 2 ounces of oil wouldn't make any difference at all......... Did you mean 2 quarts?? Most cars take somewhere around 5 quarts to fill themWhat Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
the older the engine, the heavier wieght oil you put in, for a 95 i suggest 10-15What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
Before adding Oil, I would go to the parts store (in someone elses car) and buy a bottle of Lucus for your oil (ask the guy and they will know what you are talking about) it will be about 10 bucks a bottle and you will only need one bottle! Lucus is a fantastic product and well worth the money!!!!! BEFORE adding the Lucus chainge your oil filter! then add the bottle, then five quarts of oil. with a leak that bad I would check the oil three or four times a week just to be sure that the leak has stopped. An oil change is simple and easy. JUST AS A TIP: do not use a ratchet to tighten the oil drain plug!!!!!!!!!!! you will strip it IE BAD!!!!!! I hope this helps! if you need any more help let me know!!!What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
Unscrew the drain plug and let it run into a pan, put the plug back and put 4 qts. of 10w40 in. Before you do anything, get a new oil drain plug gasket and put the new one on the plug before you screw it back in. And check it every day. It has to be up to the line. What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
I think your mechanic meant you have a leaky oil pan gasket. This is a very tough job for a person who doesn't have much mechanical knowledge. You may want to ask a friend who know of a friend who could replace it for you.

It is certainly rewarding to replace your own oil. You have to put it into consideration of how you are going to dispose of the old oil and oil filter. You will need to buy at least 5qt of oil and oil filter, a wrench to loosen the plug and of course oil filter wrench to remove the filter. You can no longer dump the dirty oil onto the ground any longer. If you shop around or look at your newspaper ad you'll find great deal on oil/filter change under $20!What Oil Does A 95 Civic EX take? how to change oil?
    There is no 'oil gasket'.

There is an oil pan gasket, if that is what you mean.

If your oil is 'running out' every 1000 miles then you need to have the leak fixed. Its a huge waste of money to keep buying oil you should have kept for 2000 more miles.

For your car, during colder times, you should use 5w-30 and for hotter times 10w-30. You need 4.5 quarts for your car.

To properly change your oil, you will need:

    - Oil

    - Oil filter

    - 17mm wrench or socket and ratchet

    - Oil filter wrench

    - Oil pan

    - Crush washer

First thing, take the drain bolt off the Oil Pan, let all the oil drain into the pan you have on the floor. And while this is happening there will be a washer around the bolt that you just took out of the oil pan. You need to replace that with the new crush washer. You will now need to replace the bolt into the pan, and tighten.

Next you need to change your oil filter. It is located on the back of the motor underneath the intake manifold. You need to turn it counter-clockwise to remove it. You'll need to use the oil filter wrench to remove it. Be careful because oil will spill out, so have the pan ready.

Once it is fully removed, you will need to check for the oil filter gasket. It might be stuck on the block, if it is, you NEED to remove it. (If you don't, when you put the new filter on and start the car, oil will shoot everywhere) You will have to get the new filter out of the box and then lube the oil filter gasket with oil. Now put the oil filter on, rotating it clockwise, and hand tighten it. Do NOT use the oil filter wrench to put it back on.

Then go ahead and re-fill the motor with oil (and remember 4.5 quarts) Put your oil cap back on, and turn your car on.

Check for any leaks, and have fun.

    Hope this helps.

  • Volvo oil light comes after warmed up. new sending unit...?

i have a 2002 volvo c70, i bought used with a bad turbo that came apart filling exhaust with oil. i had turbo replaced, then while driving the new turbo went bad then replaced that. motor was sludged, removed cleaned pan and changed oil to a synthetic and cleaned pan and screen but wasn't too bad with sludge the pick-up screen was not clogged. I had oil sending unit replaced. and manually tested and was told that was good. .

what would cause this to do that if pickup tube is clean? is this motor hopeless? engine is quiet, no taps or ticks.

also how long should it take to burn oil from exhaust it looks like a dump truck driving down the street.Volvo oil light comes after warmed up. new sending unit...?
There is an oring kit for the pickup assembly. Usually these rings get hard and brittle. When that happens air get pulled in along with oil causing pressure issues.

You can get the kit at a deler, drop the pan and replace the o-rings on the pickup assembly.

Usually that will fix the light issue.Volvo oil light comes after warmed up. new sending unit...?
Did you clean out the oil supply and drain lines that connect to the turbo. They can get clogged up, too. You don't mention that in your notes, so they may be something you should look into.Volvo oil light comes after warmed up. new sending unit...?

Breaking an oil pan nut loose?

i've spent the last 20 minutes under my chevy blazer trying to break this nut loose and i can't get it at all. i spent like 60 bucks on supplies to get my oils changed so i can't just take it in and someone else do it. any ideas on how to bust it loose?Breaking an oil pan nut loose?
1 have you striped it? try vise grips...make sure you get um just right,,,may take several tries

2 are you turning in correct direction ??? [righty,,tighty,,,,lefty,,,loosey]Breaking an oil pan nut loose?
If you haven't stripped it then there are a couple things that you can do

    1) get a longer wrench, more length=more leverage.

    2) spray some WD-40 on it and let it soak a while and try again.

If you have stripped it I would use some channel locks to turn it.Breaking an oil pan nut loose?
watch this video for your answer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRJGd3p2tcQ%26amp;feature=channel_pageBreaking an oil pan nut loose?
Yup, it is frozen up and needs some penetrating lube or liquid wrench to unstick it. WD-40 does ok, but liquid wrench and penetrating lube is made to unstick tough bolts and unstick locks and other mechanical items.

Spray the stuff on and let soak in for about 10-20 minutes and then you should be able to turn it.

Also using a torque wrench is better than a regular wrench as it helps to avoid stripping the head of the bolt or from breaking it off.

If your bolt head is stripped then vice grips are best, but make sure you buy a new bolt or next time you change the oil, it will be really impossible to get it off again.

How do you change the oil on a 2006 ML350?

Where is the oil filter and do you have to remove a pan?How do you change the oil on a 2006 ML350?
the oil filter is on top of the engine and underneath the cover on the engine. to take the cover off lift the front of it up then slide it back. the filter is a canister type filter so you have to change the o-rings and the filter or it might leak. you also should use a special oil filter wrench to break it loose. or just put a rag on it and use a large set of pliers but be careful. the drain plug is a 13mm bolt. to get to it you have to remove a skid plate below the oil pan. make sure to use mobil one sythetic oil or your engine may be severely damaged and you engine warranty void. might want to save the recipts too. oh and the engine takes about 8 quarts i would start with 7.75 then check it. make sure you tighten the filter enough or you will make a big oil mess!!

easiest thing is to take it to a dealership. How do you change the oil on a 2006 ML350?
You may wanna bring it into the dealer shop to get them done. Car is to luxury to do your own. Besides there's to many little computer in the system you don't wanna mess them up where it may cancel your garanteeHow do you change the oil on a 2006 ML350?
Take it to the dealer, It needs more than just an oil change. It reuires an A or B service. If you screw something up you will void your warranty. How do you change the oil on a 2006 ML350?
you should just take it to a dealer that way it don't void the warranty.

he's 100% right you have to use Mobil One Oil as well,

If you have changed your oil on a regular basis, it is very unlikely that it's clogged. running the engine without oil will ruin it VERY quickly. you can do this to clean everything (although I don't like running the engine without oil). put two quarts of transmission fluid in engine then fill it up with oil (any kind) run for 10 minutes. then drain and refill with your regular oil. that will clean the pump. in the old days this is how we would clean the shellac and varnish out of engine and the gunk (before the advent of cleaners in oil) if it still clatters then your pump is bad-have it fixed-trade it off-something cause it won't last long.Ford ranger 3.0 how to unclog oil screen without pan removal?
it might be your oil pressure sending unit, try that first, you might be hearing things that were already there,if your oil pump is shot you need a whole new motor( probably)Ford ranger 3.0 how to unclog oil screen without pan removal?
If you need to unclog your oil screen = = YOU HAVE MORE PROBLEMS than just a clogged oil screen!Ford ranger 3.0 how to unclog oil screen without pan removal?
if your looking for a quick fix don't the pressure regulator detent ball is stuck. do like others say and have the oil pump replaced or ruin the motor. double check with a Chilton manual because i believe that you can unbolt the engine mounts to raise the motor to get the oil pan off.Ford ranger 3.0 how to unclog oil screen without pan removal?
You might as well pull the engine and put another one in since you kept running it after the oil pressure started going and probably trashed it.

How to fix a small rust/crack/leak in my oil pan?

Just bought this 99 Taurus. I checked under it before I test drove it because I did not want a leaky car. I have a Cavalier with a rear seal leak but I have been putting off fixing it because it is going to be a lot of work/pain the butt. Just keep adding oil every couple of weeks. Anyways, I went to give it an oil change and I notice that there is quite a bit of oil on the pan bottom and some on the ground. I wiped it down and see that there is a leak right in the middle of the bottom of the oil pan. possibly a small rust crack. I have never seen that before. It does not look to be dented like something has struck it there. I noticed this after I had put the new oil in, so I have drained it and now I am looking for a fix. I have JB welded some things with good success. I actually did my sons quad engine case. The chain came off and knocked a hole in the case. I gobbed the JB on and around over about 4 coats to completely cover and fill it. Has held so far. So unless someone has a better suggestion I guess that is what I will try.

  • How long can a pan saver oil plug be used safely?

A while back the Walmart Lube Center stripped my oil pan and put a temporary plug in without telling me a thing about it. The next time I got my oil changed was at Super Lube- the mechanic there told me about it, took out the temp, and put in a pan saver. I have had that for like a year and just went to Tire Kingdom to get my oil changed again. They refused to do it because it's %26quot;against their policy%26quot; to touch a car with that kind of plug. When I went back to Super Lube, I was told that the pan saver was not a %26quot;temporary fix%26quot;, as the guy at Tire Kingdom said, but actually a permanent plug. He said it was just different from the threaded plug that was there before because the pan was stripped out.

Is this pan saver a real fix to save me the money of a new pan? If the pan saver does need to be replaced, can I safely take it out during an oil change and replace it with another one? I don't want to have to pay $400 to replace the oil pan but I am scared my car is going to eventually start leaking oil.How long can a pan saver oil plug be used safely?
they can be used as a replacement. policy doesnt mean a thing, they just want to avoid a headache in the event of failure.its not gonna fail, as long as its reinstalled right.you can have a bung welded in and a new plug, but the engine can catch on fire if you do that without removing the pan.a good welder can do this, i know i can.

you will need to start the car to let it warm up for a few minutes this will help the oil to drain better. then jack up the front end and put it on jack stands or drive it on to some car ramps to access the drain plug which is 15 millimeter wrench or ratchet should work remove the drain plug whitch is located on the lower back side of the oil pan. have your drain bucket ready to catch the oil once the oil has drained out put the drain plug back in snuggly, donot over tighten. then move your drain bucket over to the pasenger side of the engine to remove the oil fiter it is located on the rear corner of the engine on the passenger side you may need a oil filter wrench to get it off when it is removed let the oil drain out when it is stopped draining take your new oil filter and screw it back on only as tight as your hand can turn it. then open the hood remove the oil cap on the front valve cover and pour in exactly 4 and a half quarts of oil place the cap back on lower the front of the car start the engine let it run for a minute check for leaks then shut it off and check the oil level and you should be good to go. hope this helps good luck.

Trolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?

I want to change the oil in my car, and need to lift my car up from the front to reach the oil pan. Which jack is more suitable, trolley jack or bottle jack, and how many of each will I need? Thanks.Trolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?
Neither should be considered as completely safe, you should never go under a car unless it is on level ground and supported on axle standsTrolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?
Don't use a jack or any other lifting device.

Simply too dangerous. Have a garage or quick lube shop change your oil.Trolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?
Bottle jack is dangerous.Trolley jack and blocks of wood or trestles under the body or suspension member is what you need to be safe from the car falling on top of youTrolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?
a trolly jack would be more stable as a bottle jack could be more unstable to work under a carTrolley jack or bottle jack for car oil changes?
Trolley jack more stable - use with axle stands or other solid props or even better a set of short ramps. Make sure handbrake firmly on/chock rear wheels.

Ps Dont lose the drain plug!

How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?

Big mistake accidently turned on the car after with no oil in it for about 2min, will this do any damage to my car... actually i was doing an oil change i put the oil in but forgot to put the oil pan bolt back.. so all the oil just leaked out while the car was on...

how much damage could this have done if it was only on for a couple minutes? How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
You should be OK. anytime you run something without oil, there is more wear and tear. The longer you run it the more wear occurs. Good thing you didn't drive it for 2 minutes because there is a lot more tension and therefore a lot more wear.

Bottom line... you did do some minor wear, but I would not worry about it. I would rather have my car sitting and idling for 2 minutes without oil than drive down the highway with only 2 or 3 quarts of oil.

To put things in perspective, there is already oil in between the piston rings. Those take about 5 minutes to leak out. That is where the most wear and tear is.How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
I read an article on this, one of the magazines tested an oil additive claim that after treatment, a car engine could be run even without oil. In the tests engines seized in 10-13 seconds without oil. The fact that your car still runs must mean you had some oil left in the pan while the car was running. How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
more than likely you lucked out since some oil would have remained in the engine. if the car seems to run fine, no knocking or misses, you probably didnt do any damage. if the car had run longer you would have run into some problems. How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
Your lucky you didn't drive down the road!

This shouldn't be a real bad thing.

Just as long you didn't rev up the engine. How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
If it still runs you are OK but I wouldn't recommend doing that again! How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
forget about it..no way to tell,,,but if its running ok,,,its ok..How bad is it to have no oil in engine for 2min?
hopefully not much ...no way to tell.......

    1985 Ford LTD Oil Change?

    Hey all,

I am going to change the oil in my car but I don't know what the oil pan looks like. What does it look like? Will I need any special tools? Will the filter just unscrew? Does the oil filter say %26quot;oil filter%26quot; on it? The local autozone will take the oil but what do I take it there in? I don't want to buy any kind of container. How do I get my car up on the ramp things? Any suggestions or tip on changing your own oil is welcome. Thanks!1985 Ford LTD Oil Change?
put the old oil in a milk jug or back in the oil bottles, where the new oil came in.the oil pan is right under the engine and all you need is a big enough pan to catch the oil,and a wrench to fit the drain plug.the oil filter screws up on the engine, under the car.its round and before you put a new one on,take some oil and go around the filter gasket.you also need a filter wrench to take the old filter off,but dont use the wrench to put the new filter on,its only hand tighten.make sure you tighten the drain plug, but not tight enough, you strip the threads or round the head of the plug.you can drive your car upon the ramps, before you start your work.make sure you have plenty of rags.hope this helps you.it sounds difficult, but not really.1985 Ford LTD Oil Change?
